Workin' Hard

The cribs are here! One came in a couple of weeks before the other so Matt was able to have a break in between setting them up! He did such a good job making sure they were put together right and were sturdy. He even tested out the springs to make sure they wouldn't break when the girls are in them.
Matt put the cribs together but he did have plenty of help!

Crawling on the rails...she is making sure that Uncle Matt has the right pieces.

Helping measure the cribs for the bedding that YaYa is making.

Guarding the tools!

Putting together crib #2.

Finished crib...I love how it turned out!

And then there were 2! The reality of having twins is so much more real when there are 2 cribs put together and set up. I cannot wait until there are 2 girls in those cribs, sleeping peacefully...we hope!!

28 Weeks

When I was on bed rest my doctor said that it was important for me to get to 28 weeks because the risk of disabilities significantly decreased. Well...I made it to 28 weeks (and now I am almost 29!). We were so excited to reach our milestone we got to go out and eat, a BIG deal since I was stuck in the house for over 2 weeks!!

I have really noticed that I (...the babies) have gotten bigger in the past 2 weeks. The girls are very active, they especially like to kick my ribs. We have also noticed that at 9:00 every night they are up and kicking! We are hoping that they will come out on a schedule!! HA! I went to the doctor recently and got to hear 2 strong heartbeats. The doctor said that by the position of their heartbeats they are probably both head down, which is great new because I would rather not have a c-section!
Our next milestone is 30 weeks but we are hoping that they come around 35 weeks. I cannot believe that we will have 2 girls in less than 2 months!

Good News

I have been on bed rest for a week and a half and one of my biggest adventures out of the house has been to go to the doctor! Going into the appointment, I was hoping that he would let me off bed rest since I had not had a contraction in 5 days. I was also going in for the dreaded glucose test and an ultrasound.
I passed the glucose test but I am anemic so I have to take more iron supplements, which I can handle, at least I do not have to go back in for another glucose test!
We also got to see the girls. They were moving so much, a big improvement from last week. The ultrasound tech said that they are doing great!! Each measure 1 pound 13 ounces!

Her head is on the right and her spine is at the top.

This baby is harder to see...her head is at the left, you can see an eye and her jawbone.
After the ultrasound I met with my doctor. He said that I was "his best patient" and asked me how I got the contractions to stop without taking my medicine! I also got the all clear to get off bed rest and go back to work. I have never been so excited to go back to school! Bed rest is a miserable thing!!

One day at a time...

This past weekend has been one of the biggest roller coaster rides we have ever been through. Friday after school I began to have pain and tightening in my stomach. I started to count them and I soon realized that they were contractions...not the Braxton Hicks but the real thing...every 3 to 5 minutes. Panic set in, especially since I was by myself. I talked to my doctor's office and they recommended several things to stop the contractions. I tried everything short of standing on my head...elevating my feet, drinking water, and even sitting in a warm bath. However, those things didn't work, so as soon as Matt got home we headed for the hospital. It was early enough that Matt's mom was still there and everyone was expecting us. We got hooked up to the contraction monitor and they found both girls heartbeat (still one of the most amazing sounds, especially when you are scared!) They observed me and confirmed that I was having contractions and they were consistent. The nurse checked me and I wasn't dilating and the girls were still high, which was great news but the contractions had to stop so that it would not progress anything. They then gave me a drug that was to relax me and hopefully stop the contractions. It made me very relaxed but did not stop the contractions. We were then on to round 2...a different medicine to stop the contractions. After 3 rounds of shots and about 6 hours the contractions slowed to one every 15 minutes. The doctor was happy with this and gave me some medicine to help me sleep and sent us home. I was so glad to be going home and I thought that after a good nights rest the contractions would be gone and life would resume as 'normal'!
I had a great nights sleep and woke up Saturday morning feeling good. I got to have my favorite breakfast, french toast, in bed. After I ate the contractions came back...one every 5 minutes. We called the doctor again and he said to come back to the hospital. Once again we got hooked up to all the monitors and they saw that the contractions were in fact back again. The doctor decided to try the same medicine to see if it would work again. After 6 hours and 3 shots the contractions were stopped. This time the doctor gave me a prescription for the medicine in a pill form, told me that I was going to be on bed rest and that I needed to come to the clinic on Monday for more observation. He also gave me a steroid shot to help progress the girls lungs just in case they came early.
So now we are taking it one day at a time. Each day is a milestone. Each day is another day stronger. Each day the girls have a better chance of not only survival but being healthy. So my life is now just being thankful for one day at a time.

The Girls Nursery

When we found out that we were going to be having 2 girls Matt's only request was that I didn't "overwhelm him with pink"! So, when I began to think about the nursery I thought about a girly blue with accents of pink. I found this picture online and instantly loved it...and the best part was Matt liked it too! I think that it is girly without being too much pink!

With our inspiration in mind the painting began.

My Nana and my mom came down to help and they did a great job. We are so thankful for them!

My mom is also going to be making the girls bedding. We choose this fabric, which matches the walls perfectly! We are adding pink, green, and brown. I love the fabric and cannot wait to see the finished bedding!

Seeing the paint on the walls and having picked the fabric marks one more step closer to the girls arrival. I still don't think it has hit us that we will be bringing home TWO GIRLS!! Our life will be forever changed!
